Let’s Curate

Curate Definition: Carefully chosen and thoughtfully organized and presented

  1.  Do something kind for someone else: it can be sending someone an encouraging text, phone call or even sending them a card through “snail mail”. Visit with an elderly person, help out a friend by babysitting their children for a few hours at no charge-lol, or send a gift card to someone who is going through a difficult time. There are endless ways to show kindness. When we show kindness it helps produce JOY in us.

  2. Turn down the noise: What does that mean? In our society, we have constant noise/influences from social media, movies, news, in our community, etc. The noise can jam up our minds and cause us to start focusing on petty or negative things instead of focusing on the good and positive things. Reduce the noise-increase the JOY!

  3. Declutter: One definition means: to remove unnecessary items from an untidy or overcrowded place. I recently decluttered my linen closet. I went through it and left a certain amount that would accommodate my family and me and the rest was given to a donation site. When I decluttered that space it honestly brought me JOY and it was a JOY to be able to give to those in need. So pick an area in your house, car, work, or even your mind that you need to declutter and go ahead and do it-don’t delay declutter today!

  4. Have a spirit of gratitude: Some people have gratitude journals, others recite first thing in the morning what they are grateful for, and some do it before they go to bed at night. I try my best daily to think of something I am grateful for even if I don’t actually write it down. A fun way to remind yourself about what you are grateful for is to grab a chalk marker and write each day something that you are grateful for on your bathroom mirror. Being grateful for what you do have and for what is going right in your life will help produce and keep JOY even during difficult times!

  5. Last but certainly not least be a part of a community. Having community and people that you connect with helps to enhance your JOY. Research has shown that people that attend church and or are part of a community tend to live longer and recover faster from illnesses. Why? Because they have people checking in on them, loving on them, and supporting them. So if you don’t have a church-please find a good one and start getting involved and connected. Remember no man or woman is an island-lol.

Bonus: JOY comes from the Lord, Happiness is nice but it’s fleeting, so if we want to curate true and everlasting JOY then we need to have that personal relationship with God. How can we do that? By reading and studying his Word (applying it to our lives) Praying/fasting, listening to devotionals, saturate our minds with the things of God, and being faithful to a bible based church!
