Heart of Christmas
By: Paulette Matthewson
The Christmas season is one of my favorite times of the year. Now that I’m older and hopefully a little wiser; the gift
exchanging has changed. I prefer to give more meaningful things and focus more on time spent with loved ones.
With gift giving in mind I recently read the scripture where Jesus said “My peace I give unto you, I’ve read that scripture many times before but never looked closely at what He was telling us.
The meaning of give here is bequeath.. meaning property or estate, money etc that is left in the will for a specific person.
The owner decides of course before death who the property will go to.
What an amazing gift Jesus bequeath to me/to us “PEACE.” He already gave it whether I walk in it or not it’s a beautiful gift that can help us navigate the rough patches and storms of life that can so easily disturb our peace.
I am more aware now of how I ask God for peace in a given situation, instead, I’m asking Him to help me walk in His peace He’s already left for me in His will for my life.
I’ve not mastered this but I am trying to have a spiritual paradigm shift regarding His peace that is already bequeathed.
In this season of giving and receiving may God help us to take and unwrap His gift of peace that was left for us, not from under the Christmas tree, but from His Word, the peace that’s bequeathed to us.
